Bequests

If you want to take a longer term view about assisting the trust you may wish to consider a bequest, which is a gift made in your will.

This can usually be done by adding a codicil to your existing will. However you should always consult your solicitor to ensure your wishes are properly expressed and documented.

A bequest can be for a specific amount of money, or of a particular asset, e.g. a house or an investment portfolio. The bequest can be made for a specific charitable purpose, or simply for charitable purposes at the discretion of the Trustees.

As a guide, the following is a general form of wording that can be used in your will, subject to consultation with your solicitor. It may need to be modified depending upon the nature and purpose of your bequest.

"I give devise and bequeath to The Walter & Eliza Hall Supplementary Trust, ABN 33 905 731 767, for its general purposes, free from all taxes and duties the sum of $xxxx. I direct that the receipt of any Trustee or the secretary for the time being of that Trust will be sufficient to my executors."

If you wish to discuss any aspect of making a bequest to the trust, please contact us on (02) 9264 9480 or email.

Establish a fund in your own name

Where large amounts are donated or bequeathed there is the option of having the funds held and administered by the trust in your name or in memory of someone else. In this way the ultimate beneficiaries are informed of the original source of the assistance made available to them.

How your money is used

The Survival Fund provides real help to families and individuals on low incomes or dependent upon Government assistance - those who are always vulnerable when any unforeseen event occurs. For many, unexpected events often have a cost beyond their most basic of budgets. And when every cent counts, and there are no reserves for contingencies, people can find themselves in desperate need of help. It is heartbreaking that for many Australians a real crisis is, literally, just a step away.

Australia is fortunate to have many charitable organisations. However, sometimes people's needs are such that even the mainstream charities can't assist. When no-one else can help, The Survival Fund often can.

We can't provide for long-term care or long-term needs, but often we can provide modest assistance to help people to survive their crisis. And having survived the crisis, they can give attention to finding the long-term solution to their problems. Even small amounts can make a big difference to those in need.

How your money is not used

Your money does not go towards our administration costs.
Currently, 100% of donations go direct to the beneficiaries
. Our operation is very lean, but it is inevitable some costs are incurred in administering a program that provides small grants to many people. These costs are kept to an absolute minimum, and currently are covered by other resources of the Trust.
